Personality[]
Senjou is the quintessential punk with a heart of gold. He is short-tempered, brash, and loud, and he’s incredibly stubborn to boot. He is quick to take on any challenge, having a combative and impulsive personality, and this leads to a number of sometimes ridiculous competitions with Masaru, such as who can carry the most (or heaviest) boxes at once or who can stomach the most bowls of ramen in an hour. Even though he is more than capable as an opponent, compared to Masaru, he is nowhere near as strong and is thus often in a losing position. However, Masaru never claims victory over him, which only results in angering Senjou and beginning the cycle anew.
Despite his rash behavior, Senjou is exceptionally intelligent, rivaled only by Mayumi amongst the interns, and he is surprisingly clever when able to keep a level head. When put onto telemarketing duty, he uses his wit to trick and charm customers, and in addition to his hidden charisma, Senjou also possesses a surprising amount of empathy. If anyone other than Masaru takes the time to point out he’s being unreasonable, he more often than not is able to apologize for his error and adapt accordingly.
Appearance[]
Senjou’s hair is naturally black, but he shaves it to keep up his tough appearance, also ditching his glasses for contacts for similar reasons. Unlike Masaru, who indulges in designer wear for the feel of fine fabrics, Senjou prefers to remain casual and comfortable, sporting a variety of dark gray hoodies with various graphic designs over a black tank top. His other regular staples are a black beanie adorned with different pins, a silver chain necklace, skinny straight dark blue jeans, and black tennis shoes with yellow accents. Additionally, his left eyebrow is also pierced with two silver hoops.
History[]
Senjou was born from the arranged marriage between Nobutoshi and Kanami Tatsugumi as their first and only son together. Kanami was the daughter to the former Tatsugumi head and given as a bride to inductee Nobutoshi after many years of working to impress the family, despite her well-known relationship with the future head of the Toragumi, Ikaku. There was very little affection between Senjou’s parents, and while Kanami spent a lot of time raising him alongside her friends in the Toragumi, Nobutoshi had a hard hand in his upbringing at home.
Senjou was, by all accounts, a brother to Masaru, and he became steadfastly loyal to his best friend. They did just about everything together, but most of the time, they wrestled and played games. Still, as the grandson to the Tatsugumi’s oyabun, Senjou was expected to uphold several responsibilities like making appearances at important meetings. That along with the severe training he was assigned to by his father made his friendship with the cheerful Masaru a welcome breath of fresh air.
His intelligence led to him excelling in school with little effort, and his training as a martial artist paid off in his fights with Masaru, even though he was ultimately always the loser. Even with the natural discord between his parents, Senjou’s life was otherwise a good one, even when his grandfather passed away and Nobutoshi took over the family. Unfortunately, he soon discovered that his mother’s relationship with Ikaku Toragumi had never truly ended. At first confounded, he demanded an answer from his mother, but she told him only to put his happiness before the family.
Harboring this dangerous secret, Senjou was livid, but it was Masaru who put his mother’s words into perspective for him. He realized that his mother’s happiness with Ikaku was the same as the happiness he got from his friendship with Masaru, and he understood then that he couldn’t hate her for that. Content to put her happiness before the family’s, Senjou kept her affair quiet.
However, one night when he was studying, Kanami and Ikaku got a little too careless and were discovered by a hired hand that alerted Nobutoshi immediately. From there, Senjou and his mother’s life came crashing down. Nobutoshi waged war on the Toragumi, Ikaku was exiled from Chuushu, Senjou was forbidden from his friendship with Masaru, and Kanami was executed.
Devastated at the loss of everything he knew, Senjou’s usually hot-headed attitude led to an even moodier downward spiral. When Nobutoshi talked of enrolling him in a private academy instead of Hanasaka, Senjou began failing his classes and causing trouble to get a bad record. Concerned by this behavior, Okuda pulled Senjou aside to find out what was going on and intervened with an enticing offer to Nobutoshi, promising Senjou a job immediately out of graduation.
From there, Okuda then arranged an after-school program solely for Senjou and Masaru to participate in, allowing them to continue their friendship while simultaneously pushing each other as fighters by giving them the chance to spar. When it came time to graduate, Senjou suggested that he and Masaru convince their fathers that their choice to work at Koukai was a concerted effort to take hold of the company for their respective families so that they would not be accused for violating the feud. Sure enough, Nobutoshi and Shou bought their deal and agreed to permit them work in the same environment on the condition that the relationship was strictly professional.
Powers & Abilities[]
Senjou relies on agility and sharp attacks as opposed to powerful blunt force, whereas Masaru hits like a truck. This is not to say Senjou is without his own strength, as he is able to fight effectively against his weight class. Very nearly matched, Masaru and Senjou’s matches end in ties, with Masaru being too tender to seriously hurt Senjou.
Senjou's Reflection is named Jinmen Juushin (人面獣心), allowing him to transform into the dragon tattooed onto his back. Using special ink made with Ayakashi blood, getting the tattoo is a process that puts the life of the owner at risk, a trial of pain and willpower that ensures only the strong can wield such power. This process is entirely artificial and such a Reflection is not natural, but can only be earned with a strong body and mind. Senjou’s transformation can entail either a full transformation or a partial transformation, allowing him to keep his human form and martial style while having powerful claws and armored scales.
